AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Eureka CA
402 AM PDT Tue May 6 2025

.SYNOPSIS...Sunny skies and warm inland temperatures are expected
again today. Winds will be lighter this afternoon, especially
along the coast. Tonight and Wednesday Coastal and valley clouds
are expected to increase along with cooler temperatures near the
coast. Thursday through Saturday warmer temperatures are expected
again. Late Sunday into Monday there is a chance of rain across
the area.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Water vapor satellite shows high pressure centered
over the west coast. Winds are expected to be lighter today,
especially along the coast. Inland temperatures will be similar to
yesterday with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s. The marine layer
is expected to remain off the coast through the day. This could
allow temperatures at the immediate coast to warm into the middle
to upper 60s, However, it could easily remain the low 60s. So
stuck with the NBM forecast in the low to mid 60s. Tonight an
approaching upper level trough is expected to shift the wind flow
to more onshore and bring a return of the marine layer and stratus
to the coast. There is still quite a bit of uncertainty on how
quickly the clouds will return, but it will likely be around
sunset. This will likely spread up the river valleys tonight as
well. Wednesday coastal clouds are expected to push back towards
the coast, but the onshore flow may keep them around or only allow
brief coastal clearing. In general this shortwave looks dry, but
it may bring some drizzle to the coastal areas. The marine layer
will keep temperatures in much of Humboldt, Del Norte and
Mendocino counties 5 to 10 degrees cooler than on Tuesday.

Wednesday night and Thursday is expected to see coastal clouds
linger with some possible clearing in the afternoon. Friday the
upper level ridge axis remains to the east of the area so this may
keep the coastal clouds around with some periods of clearing in
the afternoon. Inland temperatures are expected to warm again with
some areas reaching close to 90 degrees. Friday is expected to be
the warmest day. Saturday the next weather system starts to
approaching the area and expand the marine layer keeping the near
coastal areas cooler again.

Sunday afternoon through Monday confidence is increasing that
there will be measurable rain across much of the area. The
ensemble clusters are coming into pretty good agreement on this.
The probabilities of over 0.10 inches in 24 hours ranges from 65
percent in the mountains of Del Norte county to around 20 percent
in southern Lake county. This looks like a fairly cold airmass and
high temperatures may remain in the 50s to the low 60s. MKK

&&

.AVIATION...Generally dry offshore flow aloft will ensure VFR
conditions early this morning through late this afternoon. Gusty
northerly winds have greatly diminished for most of the region with
some high terrain areas still experiencing gustiness. HREF data
shows a ~70% probability of ceilings under 1000ft AGL returning mid
to late this evening and continuing into Wednesday morning. The
earliest stratus development is expected for the Humboldt Coast
around the Bay mid to late this evening, with stratus gradually
filling in elsewhere through early tomorrow morning, especially
eventually around the Del Norte Coast. KUKI is forecast to have calm
winds and VFR conditions.

&&

.MARINE...Gusty northerly winds have diminished below gale
criteria as the pressure gradient continues to gradually weaken this
morning. However, small craft conditions are still occurring for
all coastal waters at least until late this evening.

An upper level trough will move away from our area towards inland
western CONUS allowing ridging to fill over the Pac NW this week.
The ridging will allow a thermal trough pattern at the surface
keeping winds elevated, yet below gale force, through the week.
Wind waves will create a sea state that can be hazardous for small
crafts through midweek.

&&

.EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
CA...

     455.
